Knee Pain and Spinning

Question
Hi John:

I've been reading your readers' posts and your replies to obtain a solution to my problem.

I'm 47, very active - weights #reasonable amount# and also run on treadmill for 12 to 15 minutes sprints #reasonable speed#.
I've also been spinning twice a week for the last 6 months.  The last 3 weeks I've noticed some bilateral knee pain under my knee caps.  It's not excruciating but feels more like a burning sensation.  I also feel it when I'm just sitting and my legs are at a 90 degree angle.

I tend to think I may have overdone the resistance in my spinning classes #twice a week for 45 minutes#, particularly when I'm up out of the saddle.

Never had any knee pain in my life prior to this episode.

What is it and what would you recommend for self-directed rehab?

Thanks,

Joe

Answer
Hi Joe
Stop sprints on treadmill. You have a slight case of chondromalacia but you can continue with spin classes, but stay in the saddle.Keep a steady pace.Your problem is a tracking and a alignment problem which is normal, but you have to have some patience to let it seed and get groved again and with a good alignment,You can call me here in albuquerque Nm any time to get more clarity if you want.Just go to my site for contact info.

All the best

John
