A couple questions
Question
Hi
I am 51 and have been running off and on for the last few years, but with the recent death of a friend (he was an overweight couch potato) I decided to make it a habit. Its the only form of exercise I enjoy, and it helps burn off stress and mental energy.
1. I have tried two different types of running that were supposed to be more effective for weight loss. Fartleks or interval training gave me sore knees and left me exhausted, and the opposite long 90 minute jogs made my feet sore and were boring. Would an hour long run, say five days a week, at a moderate high speed be suitable?
2. Are there any supplements at all that are beneficial in terms of boosting energy and reducing the chance of injury?
Thanks!
Answer
Hi Barry
To answer your question first. The answer is yes to a hour run at moderate high speed. The only supplement i recommend is to help avoid injury is 500mg vit c with your 3 meals a day to enhance recovery of tendons, ligaments and collagen. The energy your looking for comes from cleaning up and fine tuning your diet and eliminating anything you know you shouldn't be eating or drinking.Just clean burning foods and get your height weight under control. You have to have a great great deal of patience and focus and it will all unfold over time.I started out just like you years ago and have been running ever since 7 days a week for the last 33 years with a gazillion races from mile to 25 marathons.Just keep your eye fixed on the path to the top but don't forget to look in front of you,The last step depends on the first, and if you want to train for some races or marathon i would love to assist you in your quest as your coach.CONGRATULATIONS on getting fired up and moving forward. You will never forget it.
All the best
