Going to bootcamp with runners knee

Question
I've been training to get ready for Marine Corps boot camp and a few weeks ago i started running 5 miles a day through a dirt trail with a lot of bumps and hills and soft sand. During my first couple of runs i started feeling some slight pain under and around my knee cap and i just decided to ignore it. Eventually the pain became unbearable and after doing some research i learned that i had developed runner's knee. I started icing it every day and rested for a week then i started doing leg extensions and leg curls to strengthen my legs and i was also running on the elliptical machine. Then yesterday i decided to try and run again since it had been a little over two weeks since the last run. Halfway through the run my knee started to hurt worse than it ever has. I have 3 weeks before i ship out to boot camp and delaying that is NOT an option, so my question is: is it possible to cure my runners knee in that amount of time and if not what will the consequences be if i go 13 weeks  of intense training with runner's knee and without being able to treat it?

Answer
Hi Ryan
Congratulations on your choice of USMC.You will enjoy the experience.I served as a SGT, in the 6th marine div out of camp Lejune NC for 5 years. It is very unlikely you can correct your situation in 3 weeks based on what you have already done. The best tool to fix it is a up right stationary bike as often as possible for 45 minutes. since you have a tracking and alignment problem which takes time.I was my own first client and it took me 8 months to correct.I have helped hundreds all over the world with this.It is hard to say how much it will effect you in boot camp but it will bother you.I know what your going to be going through and you might be able to handle it ok.Sorry i can't give you more positive info \,but that is the situation. If you would like to call me here in albuquerque NM any time at 505 271 5909 i would be happy to discuss this further and answer and more question you might have and your options.

All the best

John
