Running program
Question
QUESTION: I'm a beginner runner.I hurt my knee running and had to do some P.T. on it. I just started running again. Walking for two min. and running for one min. on the treadmill. How long do I have to keep doing this and what is a good program to follow so I don't hurt my knee again? Thanks!!!
ANSWER: Hi Tammie
First Tammie i need some very specific info on your past training and a bio such as height weight age and what specifically do you want to accomplish.Last i need to know what specific problems you were you having and how did it happen and what was the diagnoses. This is the only way i can properly advice and make recommendations for a good program for you.Any questions just give a shout out Tammie.

QUESTION: I'm a 34 years old female. 5'8" and weighs 150 lbs. I have had no past training. I had surgery in high school to stop my growth plate on the knee I hurt. I started running in Jan-2011 and hurt it in Mar-2011. I was increasing my time and pace at the same time and my PT told me that you are only suppose to increase one or the other. I did PT on it but it didn't seem to help and I waited until August to get an MRI because my PT thought I had a meniscus tear but the MRI showed nothing. The orthopedic doctor said I might have bruised the bone but I still have some pain. I think I'm just going to have to live with it. I would like to run a 5K but don't know were to start and don't want to hurt it again. What type of a program would be best for me? Thanks!!!

Answer
Hi Tammie
Based on what your pt and ortho said i think you have some tracking and alignment problems and possible a slight case of chondromalacia. The symptoms of that would be discomfort in and a round and under the knee cap plus walking up and down stairs and squatting.Do any of those things ring a bell to you?I need to zero in on that before i can recommend a good program.Get back to me with that and we can pick it up there. If you want to save time you can call me here in albuquerque NM any time and we get it taken care right away as apposed to going back and fourth with email.Just go to my web site for contact info.
