Left big toe pain
Question
Hello: I am in my early 60s,and am getting back into running after a long hiatus.I was wondering if you know what would cause me to suffer an intense, stinging pain in my left large toe after a run.The other foot is normal. It gradually goes away over a period of several hours. It particularly hurts when I flex the toe upwards, and seems to radiate up the left side into my foot.BTW,I have a new pair of shoes that are quite comfortable. Thanks!
Answer
I'm sorry you're having pain after starting running. The most probably cause of your pain is hallux rigidus. I suggest seeing a physiotherapist. If you can find one that is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) is ideal, but if not that's alright. You want someone that can manipulate your big toe. Ask if they are trained to manipulate your big toe. Even if it ends up being some other problem if they have the training to manipulate your big toe then they'll be able to provide whatever you need.
If you need any other help please let me know. Hopefully by seeking treatment quickly you'll be able to run pain free soon.
