Lower Buttock Pain.

Question
Hello John,
I am writing this email with great hope. I am overweight and started to excercise recently. I jog for around 30 mins / 2 miles (whichever is later) and then lift up some weights. I do so 3 to 4 times a week.
After a month of doing that, i am now experiencing lower buttock pain and am finding it difficult to sit for long period of time (my profession requires me to sit and work). I looked up on the internet and can relate my pain to piriform muscle ... somethings wrong with it.
But the main cause of my concern is why only lower left buttock, why not right one pain equally ? Is there a difference in my leg length or something ? If so who would be able to confirm that my leg lengths are different ? What could possibly be the cause of such pain , is it because i was trying to pull weight with my leg (where i try to put lot of pressure on my butt to sit tight and lift my legs with the weight ?) I am doing some streching excercises to help ease that muscle ... If i want to go to doctor what kind of specialist should i go to ? Please enlighten... !
Thank you ...
Prasanth.
Answer
Hi satya
Don't stress out.Your just starting out.The pain you are experiencing is normal in the areas you explain.Your out of shape and so are your muscles tendons and ligaments.Use ice after your workouts to reduce pain, and spread you workouts out for better recovery. Its normal to have one leg longer than the other. You do not need to see a doctor for your situation.Just give your body time to catch up to your lack of a consistent level of fitness in the past and you will be fine.
To your success
John
