new running routine

Question
hello,
I was thinking about changing up my running routine. I ran track and cross country in high school, but have been a recreational runner for the past 7 years. I feel like i'm in a running rut, because i do the same work out everyday. I run 2 miles. If i'm running outside, i just jog the whole time. If i'm running on a treadmill, I jog at about 11 mph for the first mile and then throughout the second mile, insert 2 minute intervals of faster running.
I'm a creature of extreme habit and it is very hard for me to change things up. Are there small-ish changes i can make to my running routine to make it more helpful for my body?
A major motivator for my running is that it only takes 20 minutes. Can you give advice that will allow me to keep my running down to 30 minutes max?
Thank you!
Kathy
Thanks,
KAthy
Answer
Hi Kathy
To improve the quality of the time you want to run.The body adapts very rapidly to a routine. To Increase the performance, you have to change the level you train at.If you just want a different routine to get rid of the boredom, there is no requirments to what to do.You can do intervals on a track,or on a streight away, hill repeats, time trials of different distances,Fartlek, which is just changing pace many times during the run like 1 min. hard and 30 sec.east etc.Just be creative kathy.Since you are not competing,it doesn't make any different what you do as long as you stay interested.
To your success
John
