jogging sickness

Question
I have been jogging rather reliquary for the past year or so, but took the winter off due to bad weather and no place to run. This morning I experienced something that had only happened once before. I just started jogging again. Saturday was the first time in a few months, and I ran a mile at a slow easy pace, and Sunday did the same. I took Monday off to rest. And started again today. I drank a bottle of water about a half hour to 45min. before I ran, so I wouldn鈥檛 be dehydrated. Then I set out to run a mile. I felt great at the beginning, I was going at a bit faster pace than before, but I felt fine. Then about 1/4 of the way into my mile a friend called my name, so I turned around and stopped and chatted for a quick minute. Then I started feeling a slight abdomen cramping (like menstrual cramps, witch is unusual being that I am not currently on my cycle) But I continued on thinking it would go away once I got moving again. I probably ran about a half mile and the pain worsened progressively. The same abdominal cramping, like menstrual cramps. So I slowed down to a walk, and the pain continued to worsen, and I also started to feel nauseous, and like I need to have a b/m really badly. I walked the quarter mile back to my home nearly staggering. By the time I got to my door I felt a little better, and I went inside and laid down on my bed for a few minutes, then felt better. I ran in the morning, on an empty stomach, other than the 16 or so ounces of water that I drank before I ran. I didn鈥檛 do anything unusual other than stop to talk to my friend. Do you have any idea what might have caused my running sickness, or how to prevent it in the future?
Answer
Hi Rebecca
My experience over 28 years as a runner and coach, that if you count back on what you have done and eat you will fine the answer.Since just starting back your body has to ajust again. It sounds to me like it was diet related, and more than likley the night before or within the last couple of days.I don't know about your diet, but meat products especially beef plays havoc with digestion. Also Rebecca when you eat at night will play a role.I really think it was something you ate.Look back over the last 3 days and i thing you will get your answer.Let me know how that works for you Rebecca and if you have any more problems.
