Running & lower back pain

Question
I am a fit 48 year old woman who already does long distance walking & aerobics but do suffer from lower back pain when standing for any length of time.I recently did a run for the first time doing 3 mins running 1 minute walking for about 3 miles which was brilliant. Unfortunately the following day my back pain was more noticeable. I was wondering if you thought that starting running at my age with this problem is a bad idea or if an investment in a good pair of running shoes would help. It would be great to hear that there is hope for me as I really enjoyed the running experience.
Answer
How are ya Kath
Don't worry. There is no problem with getting into the running at your age, as long as you approach it properly with a plan. There is a russian women i know who at 49 and then 50 won back to back los angles marathons 2004..2005 and this year placed 6th in 236 7min pace 04,05 were 229 and 230,545 pace, and i know a 94 year old who ran 447 for a marathon 2 years ago at 10:30 pace.I could give you many more examples kath.Like starting any new program, you must work into it as your musculature tissue tendons and energy systems adapt to the higher overload. You also have to do the preventive exercises to keep injuries and your back pain in check. You have to be serious about your aproach and take care of details that will ensure a wonderfull experience for many many years to come.Oh and yes a good pair of shoes is neccessary. If i can be of further assistance just get in touch kath.
PS..If you have a dream in your heart and a vision of victory you live and be the hero of your own success story.
To a successfull
running career kath
