Question
John
The pain is just below the ankle about 4/5cm along above the arch. I felt it only when I was out running at first but then became a problem at rest as well.
Been today to try some different trainers but the staff couldn't really understand why I would get pain in this part of my foot. Felt like they thought I was making it up!

Hi John
I started running about a year ago and have recently joined up for the great north run. Due to this I have increased my running. Problem is I seem to have done something to my right foot. It hurts on the bone on the inside of the foot. I have had an xray done as the doctor wondered if it was a stress fracture that came back negative but then the doctor seemed to dismiss me as if nothing was wrong. I have rested for two and a half weeks now and went for a small 3 mile jog this morning. Unfortunatly it is still painful and I'm not really sure what to do. I really don't want to stop running.
Have you any advice you give me
Thanks in anticipation
Sharon

Hi Sharon
Trying to figure what bone your trying to pinpoint. Is it in the arch, middle, back, forward, or fore foot near big toe. Also did it come on slowly or quick.Get back to me with the info and we will go from there.

Answer
Hi Sharon
There are a few things it could be such as strain ligaments.(abnormal rotation of the foot can strech ligaments)Think back if that might of happened.Tendons that pass over ankle and foot may develop tendinitis from irration, tight shoes, increase in mileage. Also possible subluxation of peroneal tendon from its groove behind the fibula componet of the ankle.I really don't think it is bone.I think it is related to the things i mentioned and also a slight sprain of foot.I would suggest a lot of icing and just do a little walk jog and biking untill you can run full time. Also take 500mg of vit.c with your 3 meals a day.The sudden increase in miles is probably the culprit.Be patient and ice morning and after workout.Keep me informed sharon how your doing, and if you have more question get in touch
Best regards
John
