ANKLE TIGHT DURING RUN

2016/7/22 10:12:50

Question
John,

over the past 4 yrs the muscle/ligament that runs down the right side of my right foot has been giving me problems.  I haven't seen a doctor yet because i just thought there would be nothing they could do.  When i jog, after about a half a mile or so this muscle start to get rock hard and i lose flexability with my foot.  it is almost as if i have a cast on.  I gets really sore and i maks it hard for me to run unless a wear a brace on the ankle.  i feel as i run on my big toe only due to the loss of flexibility in the foot.  the only this i can think it is would be a ligament that has never healed properly?  is it normal for a ligament of the ankle to never heal even after 4 years?

Answer
Hi Wes
Based on your description, the only tendon i can see would be the peroneal tendon whic sometimes gets dislocated from their normal grove behind the  the fibula component of the ankle. This usually results from a kick or blow ,producing the initial dislocation. It usually snaps back in place.I remember having this myself years ago,but fine since. Now i'm not positive but it sure sounds like it.If you can pin point better,i'll respond.I did a google search and came up with a link, which there are many.take a look and see if anything looks familiar.Let me know Wes.

The very best

John
