Foot pain from jogging...

2016/7/22 10:12:44

Question
Hi there.  I was hoping you might have some thoughts on some pain that I've been experiencing.

I have taken up jogging over the past two/three months to help lose and maintain weight.  I have been overweight currently at 180lbs on a 5'5 frame (I'm 40 years old).

I've been running between 3.5 and 5 kilometers every other day and circuit training (weights, abdominal exercise, etc.) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

I have sized and purchased running shoes (Adidas Supernova) that seem to fit very comfortably, and have not been a problem.  In the past I was having pain in both arches of my feet which I self diagnosed as potential Plantar Fasciitis (when I was at my heaviest). I treated with stretching and exercise and it seems to have subsided (recent weight loss has helped, I'm sure).

The pain that I'm experiencing is specifically on my right foot.  There is tenderness on the inside side of the foot.  It is slightly painful to the touch and has some aggrivation during jogging and walking.  It seems to improve with distance.  It basically feels like a bruise.  There appears to be a little bit of swelling but it is not bruised or discolored.  It is not painful enough to stop jogging, but I also don't want to cause permanent damage.

I will be going to the Doctor in October for a regular check-up, and basically don't want to bother with a specific visit unless it's warranted.

Any ideas on what this might be and recommendations on how to improve or treat?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Regards,
Kevin

Answer
Hi Kevin
I think your right,it seems llike a bruise.I would back off the running and walk untill it gets under controll.I would do a lot of icing to reduce inflamation and start taking 500mg of vit,c with your 3 meals a day.Your body is talking to you,you have to listen just like if your car had something going on.

The very best

John
