nausea during running 5K

2016/7/22 10:12:37

Question
My 16 yr. old son often experiences nausea and vomiting during his 5K xc races.  Any ideas how to prevent this?  thanks.

Answer
Hi Joyce
He can start doing some sit ups daily, which will help, but his real problem is proper pacing right from the gun and starting to fast and getting into oxygen dept to early and then he never recovers.Pacing is like the white or yellow line on the roads. You want to be right on or close to those lines. If you go over you crash into on coming cars.In running your body can't supply enough oxygen when you go over that line.It Is a delicate balance. He just has to test the waters in his next race.I think he will see a big difference if he can contain himself when the gun goes off.He will also pick off quite a few runners later in the race who make the same mistake.Hope this helps Joyce.Any other questions just get in touch.Let me know how he does.

Best to you

John
