Calve pain: jogging using only forefeet

Last week I read a great article on running in July/August Men's Health on the Tarahumara tribe (running tribe).
At 42 I am in pretty decent shape,163lbs at 6', mainly a lifer push-up sit-up guy. I took up jogging in the past couple of years, but only 2 to 3 miles, 2 - 3 times per week.
Well, I read the article and decided to give it a try. In the evening I ran with a nice comfortable pace while implementing the forefeet only Tarahumara "style". By the end of the 3 miles I was definitely feeling tightness in my calves. Come morning, I was pain free so long as I didn't take a STEP! Painfully tight calves and only capable of moving with each step never more than a foot. Tarahu-what? This is awful!
So its been a week, I have found relief by stretching my calves stair stepping or flat footed pushing against a wall. I have tried running gently for just a 1/2 a mile. Not so good. My calves feel tight like a spasm.
I hope that I have described this injury well enough. What do you think? Your advice is appreciated. I can scan and send you this terrific article if you like.

I've read that article or one like it before. Beleive it or not, barefoot running gives you the most natural, efficient form. However, the Tarahumara and the Kenyans, etc are usually barefoot most of their lives. They grow up barefoot, run barefoot, etc. We come from a shoe society and after wearing shoes for 42 years, your body has adjusted to them. Going out and running barefoot works different muscles, tendons, and most likely makes you feel out of line. This causes the extreme soreness. The best bet is to take time off, recover fully, and then begin running (with shoes) again. You can however run some strides barefoot on a football field or grass after your run. I used to do calistenics and strides barefoot. I knew a guy who ran road races of 10-13 miles barefoot before. He also had been walking barefoot and running that way for YEARS. Get well and get fast.
