running after illness

2016/7/22 10:12:17

Question
I have recently had tonsillitis which led to a qunisy which had to be exised and drained. I was given IV anti biotics in hospital and have a few more days on oral anti biotics. I had a run today and felt fine but a fellow nursing student tells me that exercise after illness can cause heart problems (enlargement).. a little knowledge! Can you advise please?

Answer
Amanda,

I really don't know that or not. I have always run, sick or not and didn't miss a day in 6 years. I also have been very ill (7 days intensive care) and began running the day I got out. However, your friend probably knows more about that than I do. I wish I could help more. Try sending an email to the other expert, John. He and I are very good friends and in fact used to run together in Albuquerque. He may know that kind of thing.
