burning calories: running vs jogging?

2016/7/22 10:11:58

Question
i have always believed that you burn more calories while running/jogging than when walking.

most of the stuff i've read says that a person my size (6'1", 190lbs) should burn about 200-280 calories while running a mile.

however i recently read that it doesn't matter how hard you run, all that matters is how far you run.

what the truth with burning calories?

Answer
Running faster will help you burn calories faster as the amount of work required by the body is more. This said, running slow for 20 minutes or running fast for 20 minutes....fast is better. However, running longer is better than shorter. The body doesn't begin to burn fat until 30 minutes into training on average...until that point it just burns sugar stores the body has. That is why long, runs are best for fat burning. Hope this helps...sorry about the delay in answering. I was out of town.
