QUESTION: I had a feeling I was calling it the wrong thing -- sorry. What happens is at the back of her stride her leg below the knee goes outside of her body's plane, instead of going straight up like kicking her butt. It goes out wide and then sweeps back through the side when she plants. It is tough to describe. I hope you can help.
Answer
Hi Keith
I got the picture now. Thanks for up date. The one thing i know for sure is not to mess with some one's running form. They are all different, and i have seen many over the years of all nationalitys. We have a lot of the top japanese women distance runners who train here and they all run very straight up.If you can think back keith, has she allways run this way?The only thing i would do that could make some difference is exercises like ab work, back extentions, plyometric exercises, hill repeats, push ups, abductor, adductor work. All this is to increase stability. Also doing short 50 to 100 meters short strides focusing on a very relaxed turover while maintaining form.I really think it is probably just a genetic factor unless you have seen changes over the years. As i said earlier has she been this way growing up,and if that is the case the exercises are the thing to work on to maximize what she allready has.I hope you get a feel for what i'm saying keith. If there is anything else just get in touch.
All the best
John
