calve pain when jogging

2016/7/22 10:11:47

Question
Hi,
I have been having pain in my calves when I jog, either on a treadmill or outside.  It almost feels like my calves have fallen asleep and are just waking up.  i usually run intervals, going 1 min sprinting and 2 min slow jog...it only hurts during the slow jog time.  I was told it might have something to do with lactic acid build up but I thought that only happens when you haven't worked a muscle for a while.  I play college basketball so I do a lot of running in season and during off season.  Please help me, it is causing me to have to stop before I am tired just because it hurts.  I have less then a month before I go for a tryout and so I can't really take time off.  Thank you, and I hope I have made sense with this question!

Answer
Amy,

It could definitely be lactic acid, if you are really sprinting. However, believe it or not, it could be that you have your shoes tied to tight as well....cutting off the circulation in your feet. I would honestly say you should take a few days off and ice the calves and take anti-inflammatories. A few days off will not affect your overall fitness.
