Question
i am a 40 year old male and have run on and off most of my life, usually in the 3-4 mile at a time range. my shoe of choice has been Asics most often, due to the fact that i never had bad cases of shin splints. Lately, after purchasing my latest pair (GEL 2120) i have been having shinsplints in my left leg. i looked up on the Asics website and this shoe is for overpronators, and i have a neutral gait. could this cause my shinsplints?
Answer
Hi Chuck
Breaking in new shoes is a real pain in the ? if you no what i mean. The shoe is forcing your foot to land where it hasn't before and putting a little stress on the shins.I think if you give it a little time the splints will go away since your years of running will benifit you.Just use the ice untill it subsides and also add 500 mg vit c to your 3 meals a day to enhance muscle and tendon recovery.Any other questions just get in touch chuck.Let me know how it works for you.
All the best
John
