deep calf pain

Question
Hi John.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  I was sad to read your advice on resting 3-4 weeks.  I've really been in the "zone" for running lately and hate to stop.  However, my calf pain now includes my hamstring as well.  It feels like all the muscles in the back of my leg are tight.  Any advice on how to prevent this from happening again?  I've thought about getting fitted for running shoes as opposed to just purchasing them in the store.  Would this be beneficial?  Once again, thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Lori
The infrastructure and the musculature, tendons, connective tissue all work toghther. If you have problems in one area you can bet something else will pop up directely related. The key is to keep everything balanced so you don't overload one area. Are you following me.Just like a car.To keep injury's at bay requires constant attention to the details. You don't need any special shoe fitting, just a good confortable fit.

The very best

John
