Question
Hey there,
I just noticed this site and figured I would ask an important question about my training.
I used to be a hardcore runner during high school. It has now been three years since graduation and I pick up running each summer. However, at the beginning of each summer when I start running again, my knees start aching around 2 miles into my runs. After 2 miles the pain goes to my calves and it feels like they are going to burst. At 3 miles the pain leaves my calves and I start losing feeling in my feet.
Before I run I stretch my calves out and this doesn't seem to help. The past two summers I just run through the pain until it eventually stops. Last summer I was able to run through it(It only seemed to last about a week). The only thing I can think of that might be contributing to the problem is a protein shake that I make after working out/running.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Dan Garcia
Answer
Hi Dan
If you want to get back into running,i would suggest you get into a more consistent schedule instead of just starting up in summer. You have to get back to the basics of training with all the appropiate exercises with a gradual build up.The protein shakes has nothing to do with it.You very likely could have some nerve damange or pinch nerves. How do you think your car would run if you ownly started it up in the summer.Something to think about. If you have any other questions just get in touch.
All the best
John
