Calf pains

Question
QUESTION: Hi
For nearly two years I have been suffering acute pains just below my calf muscle. I first remember getting these severe pains when I was training to join the Royal Marines. I was doing up to 5k a night and working on my upper body during the afternoon.
When running, I started to feel an aching pain that would build up around the bottom of the calf and sometimes would feel like the pressure would go a little to the front of the leg and would therefore cause me to stop running. Yet as soon as I would stop running the pain would just go, and then if I started to run again the pain would come back. I have tried running through the pain, however it gets to the point were there is no way I could possibly run any more. I play a lot of sport and when playing soccer I have to stop and sit out because of the pain, and it is stopping me from reaching my potential. I would really appreciate if you could give me some incite into this problem and any ways of me getting rid of this pain.
Thank you for your time Danny

QUESTION: Hi John, thank you for your previous response. The pain is situated not directly in the calf muscle but in the soleus, and can cause pain to tibialis anterior.
Thanks again John
Danny
Answer
Hi Danny
You could have a slight soleus pull. The tibialis diccomfort is a slight case of shin splints. You have to take some time off and start rehaping with biking, icing and some light streching of calf, achilles. You have to let what ever in the soleus or gastroc heal and then gradually start your come back with the streching etc.Start taking 500mg vit c to enhance recovery of tissue, tendons, cells. The most im[portant thing is a lot of patience and being consistent with your rehap.Don't rush back in your sports of choice untill it is done right,or you could really pay the price.Hope this helps Danny.Any other questions just get in touch.
All the best
John
