ankle pain/ shin spints?

2016/7/22 10:10:50

Question
I'm 38 and weight 225.  I started jogging about two months ago. I got fitted shoes for my flat feet. I had been running 1.5-2miles 2-3 times a week.  The last run on the street I felt  pain on my right ankle that went up about 4 inches on the inside of the leg.  I took 4 days off and then ran 2 miles on the track with no problem. 2 days later on the the track I could only complete 3 laps due to pain.  Are these shin splints or another problem.  Also do I keep running through the pain or will that further aggravate the problem?  I ran cross country in high school but was about 50 pounds lighter.  Thanks, Brent

Answer
Hi Brent
99% sure it is shin splints. You can't run through this. This is your body talking to you,fix me,treat me.I would do the ice as often as you can and take 500mg vit c with your 3 meals a day and start some stationary bike workouts for a couple of weeks and then test the waters, but no track workout, hills, speed.I would just start with very easy jogging.I'm not going to tell you to lose weight, cause you allready know that. Also don't take any meds because they just mask the situation. You have to treat the cause and fix it.If you have any other questions just get in touch Brent.

All the best

John
