Slow twitch/ fast twitch

2016/7/22 10:10:43

Question
I use to be a great sprinter in high school, but now 8 years later I have gained weight and I am in the process of losing it. I want to become a great sprinter again so I have been running long distances to help lose weight. I hear that this will build slow twitch fiber's in the muscles and take away from my fast twitch which I don't want to do. Is their a better way besides running long distance and diet, [which I am doing] to lose weight? also
what are some good recommended exercises I can do to build fast twitch fibers?

Answer
Hi Joseph
I would not worry about your building slow twitch at this time. You do want to get your body fat down and putting in the miles is a great way to accomplish this, and at the same time developing the musculature and strengthening tendons, tissues, cells.I one thing i would do right away if your really serious and commited is to take your time and find a real highly qualified sprint coach that you can work with.I would not limit yourself to a local coach unless he comes with impecable credentials.I would contact some world class  coaches who work with the big boys and try to work out a deal with a program over the phone and email.I do this  with distance runners all over the world and usa.If your going to do then do it right, and don't be in a hurry. If you  any other questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
