pain in right leg

Question
Hi. I am a runner..have run a marathon and usually run about 9-12 miles a
week outside or at gym. At times, I get this sharp pain running up and down
my right leg. It also feels sorta tight. I can't really explain it. It isn't everyday.
Sometimes, it's for 2 days and then it goes away for months. But, at times it's
sharp and then it's dull and though it's not excrutiating, it's annoying. I just
wonder if it's from running or if it's from something else, ie. back pain..etc. (i
have lower back pain at times, not awful though). Just wondered if you had
any advice. Thanks so much.
Answer
Hi Kirsten
I can't really pin point it with out a more clear description, but here are a few of things it could be.
Illiotibial band syndrome,Sciatica,Piriformis. If you google these kirsten you can probably pin point which one and where it is coming from. The one thing they all have in common is you have to get into a good stretching program to aliveate the problem. The lower back does come into play on most problems, but can be fixed quite easily with some good core work and a lot of patience. If you have other questions kirsten just get in touch.
All the very best
