pulled muscle

Question
Hi John
I have started training for a marathon and the other day I pulled a muscle in my calf - only very, very slightly - while doing nothing more than standing on my toes to stretch after getting out of bed in the morning.
It does not actually hurt, but just feels a bit tight from time to time. I have read in a few places that "minor" muscle strains take at least three weeks to heal. Is this so even with really minor ones?
When can I start jogging again? How do I know when it is healed?
Any help gratefully accepted!

Answer
Hi David
You might not of pulled it,and just strained it.Their is no real answer to time for healing, since it is an individual thing.I think if you just walk for about 10 minutes and then stop and lightly stretch it,and then resume a very gradual jog to test the waters and see how it feels. You just have to feel your way along.I really don't think you pulled it David, but don't do that straight out of bed,not needed.Give it a shot and get back to me,but go easy.Any other questions just get in touch.Ice it after every workout.

All the best

John
