gaining too much muscle in thighs from running

Question
I have been on a running and elliptical program (about 3 miles per day) for two months now. The goal is to get healthier and run a 5K by this August. I also want to lose about 2-3 inches on each thigh, but I have been gaining muscle in my thighs instead of leaning out! Is there anything I can do or something I may be doing wrong?
Thanks!
Answer
Hi Valerie
Gaining muscle will happen any time you start exercising, but a certain amount of fat can still exist. There is no set time to produce desired individual results, because the large variation of programs, advise, and the individuals ability to be consistent at the right effort and duration and length of program. Also everybody starts with different levels of body fat.The most important thing you can do Valerie is have a lot of patience and be consistent with your program and you will win the war in time.In regards to what else you can do.I would increase your time and intensity you spend on running and elliptical and also add some weights.Last i would take a good hard look at your diet and make sure it is properly balanced. Two months is really not a long time. You are headed in the right direction Valerie, just hit it harder and fine tune the diet and you will have no problem with that 5k.If you have any other questions just get in touch.
All the best
