Hip socket pain

Question
Hello,
I am 44, 6' 163 lbs. and consider myself to be in pretty good shape. Though I have been running for several years, in the past six months I have been running more regularly. I run 3 times per week, usually a 5k around my neighborhood. Mostly for my workouts it's barbells, push-up, crunches and the like. The problem I'm having is with my right hip. Right at the socket, I am having a dull pain that isn't wildly painful, but it doesn't seem to go away. Five years ago I pulled some ligaments in my right ankle, somewhat rolling it. I was on crutches for a while. Then, I did it again, in May 2007. Crutches again, a week and a half, then limped along until better. I'm assuming I've "unbalanced" myself.. I did not go through any sort of rehab with either of the injuries. I guess I should mention; my ankle feels fine and I don't have ankle pain worth mentioning. I did snap a little of the band on the back of my calve during the last injury and do experience a little discomfort there. I'm concerned with the way that I'm impacting my hip socket and would like to know what I can do to correct whatever it is I'm doing incorrectly. Or is it time to start biking?
Answer
Hi Rob
Your right about imbalance. You can still run, but i would work very hard to rebalance and strengthen.Exercises such as abductor, adductor,ab work, back extentions, 1/2 squats, leg presses.leg curls, leg extentions. The stationary bike is a fantastic tool for tracking and alignment. Also here is a great web site with all kinds of good stuff.you
will get some nice exercises etc.www.ronjones.org.Let me know if you have any other questions Rob.
All the best
John
