Calf injury that wont go away.

Question
I have an injury in my calf muscle that won't seem to go away. My calf is fine when I walk and jump but not when i run. It feels as though a needle or a small electric shock is hitting a point in my left inner calf. The point of pain is very localized. I can still use the elliptical/cross trainer at the gym but cannot run because it hurts as soon as i do. I have been seeing physiotherapists for a while but none seem to be able to tell me why it takes so long to heal or what is actually wrong.
I have been undertaking stretching and strengthening exercises for the past 4 months but the results are poor at best. As a one off the other day I was trying to build myself on the tread mill by running at a slow 8km/h and I felt a shock run up from my calf, where the pain usually is, to my head and felt very dizzy. It's only happened once but is very strange.
The injury began to flare after a period of inactivity but even before that I occasionally had a smaller, less painful pin prick in my calf when I ran that usually disappeared after the first minute.
Have you encountered something like this before or know someone who has? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Answer
Hi Steve
I have not encountered this before.I really can't put my finger on what it is,but i would guess it is deep into the gastroc.Since you have done some rehab and it is not better.I would recommend you not run at all and take to the stationary bike and stay off the elliptical and just plain give what is ever going on in there time to heal.I think a couple of months and test the waters every three weeks. Also start taking 500mg vit c with your three meals a day to enhance recovery of tissues, cell structure, connective tissue. There comes a time sometimes that you just have to let it rest.Any other questions just get in touch Steve.
All the best
