Question
hi
well let me explain my situation and hopefully you can help me. i do an hour and a half at the gym every day i do the rowing machine , light weights and the elliptical trainer and i stretch i am a 32 year old female . i consider myself to be in good shape but i wanted to shake up my workout and try running so i added a 30 min walk run (alternating every 2 min.)to my daily routine. the first day i felt great , second day light pain in knees and ankles and a slapped feeling in the feet third day i really hurt but pushed on because i thought my body just was not used to the running. fourth day had to stop after 15 min and was in severe pain in knees and ankles. woke up barley able to walk because pain was so bad so i hobbled to work and that was 6 days ago so far i have iced my knees and ankles and had a massage from a masseuse been on bed rest , and my knees are feeling a little better ankles are still hurting . i feel no pain when i first wake up but as soon as i get out of bed and walk around or sit i am really akey and in pain, so i go and rest allot and ice allot but i am starting to worry . do you know what my problem is? and if so what can i do to heal and is it even possible for me to run , i love to run so i hope this is not it for me. i really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question have a good night  Elizabeth

Answer
Hi Elizabeth
I don't know how long you have been working out but it appears to me that your body is not recovering from your programs.Bottom line is if you don't build in easy recovery days things like this will surface. The rule is if you don't have rest and recovery days there is no healing or growth of tissues, tendons and the entire musculosketetal system. You must redesign your program to have more easy recovery session with lower intensity and spreading it out farther. If you set this up properly and follow it i think you will see immediate improvement. The body can only absorb so much, and will start talking to you like it has yelling give me a break Elizabeth. This i no for sure. You will be able to run again for sure. For healing epson salt baths are fantastic. Also take 500mg vitc with your 3 meals a day. Also take a close look at your diet for a proper balance of nutrients. If you have other questions just get in touch Elizabeth.

All the very best

John
