Feels like a pinched nerve in leg/hip joint 30 min. into run

2016/7/22 10:09:30

Question
I'm 60 and have been jogging for several years. Nine months of the year I run

for 30 minutes in the morning, and in summer run for 60 minutes.  I'm

slowing down... 9-10 minute miles... had lower back surgery at 40 and see a

chiropractor at least once a month for adjustments (some  weakness in left

leg since back surgery).  Anyway, since early spring I have a pinched nerve

feeling in left leg/hip joint... really obvious when walking up stairs.

Chiropractic adjustment hasn't really made a difference.  I run for 30 minutes

and the "pinched nerve" feeling kicks in... often forced to walk a bit... before I

can continue... but still a pain.  I've just retired and want to run more.  What

can I do?  (I ran a a 10k two weeks ago and afterwards,  felt crippled for ten

days...)

Answer
Hi Scott
It is time to get started on a rehabb, rebalancing, stretching, alignment, weight program, with core work to be running well into your 90's and loving life.Yes it is possible. The key is to gradually work into it and be consistent. There is no single answer for any injury since every muscle, tendon, ligament, connective tissues, musculosketal system work together. The key is rebalancing, strengthning, and correcting alignment and all imbalances in musculature. This is the key for immediate and long term.Rebuild the foundation and your house will hold up for years. If you don't have the knowledge to put it together,i reccomend finding a qualified trainer, and do check his history since certified means nothing without years of experience and put together a good plan that addresses the things on mentioned. You can also add a couple of other activity's such as swimming and biking.I know you wanted a quick answer, but there is never one except geting milked by the medical community with constant follow up programs and a drained pocket book. You always have to treat what the cause is and not the symptoms.Any other questions just get in touch Scott.

All the best

John
