ankle pain while running laps and sprints

Question
My 15 year old daughter is playing on her high school volleyball team this fall.  After running sprints during practices she has been complaining about ankle pain and usually needs to stop practicing.  But when we look at her ankle, there is no swelling and the pain is gone by the next day. She's been playing volleyball for five years and never had this problem before.  We bought her an ankle brace but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.  Thank you in advance for any advice you can give us.

Answer
Hi Allison,

I will need to know more information to even guess what the issue is.  What exact location is the pain coming from...try to be as precise as possible?  The ankle is very complex with many structures prone to injury.  What brings it on?  Is onset immediate or does it show up 30 minutes in?  What is the quality of the pain....sharp, dull, stinging, etc?  Please provide me as many details as possible surrounding this pain.  This will help me toward a solution.

Thank you, Larry
