definite injury just below ball of calf

Question
I have a recurring injury every time I run, well after I'm warmed up.  I will feel a sharp pain (tearing sensation?) right below the ball of my calf, where the flat part of the calf meets with the meaty, ball part.  Not sure what to do...

Answer
Hi Craig
You have to treat this serious or you could be in for some serious down time and major rehabbing.I would just bite the bullet and not run and hit the stationary bike for six weeks to maintain your fitness. No eliptical. You want to spend a lot of time icing and add 500mg vitC to your 3 meals a day to enhance recovery of tendons, ligaments, cell structure, tissues.Do not stretch it,it has been stretched to the point of partial tearing. We just don't no how much, but we do know you have to address the situation and give it what ever time it needs to heal.I would say you can test the waters after 6 weeks but very gradually. It is pulling away from where the achilles inserts. If you have other questions just get in touch craig. You can also soak it in a epson salt bath for additional recovery.

All the very best

John
