Leg cramping

2016/7/22 10:09:07

Question
Hello Mr. Dehart,

I started running cross country this year and one major problem has come up. During every long practice (>3 miles) my left calf will get tight and cramp as I tire exactly at 3 or so miles. I feel that my left leg has issues with form; my foot won't roll and push off like my right one. It tends to strike/slam while I run and seems to be a precursor to my calf issues. Do you know anything about this?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Jonathan
It appears to me that you have some alignment and weak core problems and your pelvis is rotating causing these problems.I would recommend to start really working hard on a lot of ab work, back extensions, abductor adductors, leg extensions and curls.some half squats. This probably was a previous condition and just surfaced when you started cross country. There is no quick fix.If you have other questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
