Vomiting & hard-intensity exercise

Question
Hi I'm medical student and sprinter, and I'm investigating the mechanism that causes vomiting after a hard-intensity exercise. I discovered that it磗 not too much information about it and I want to ask if you have any publication about this subject.
I'll really appreciate your help.
Answer
I know of no main publications on the issue, but with my real-world experience of training track, cross-country, and other athletes, I feel that there's some kind of fight-or-flight response of the body when such high intensities are hit. This response may trigger the vomiting in some people. Unfortunately, the common myth that you have to 'run til you puke' in order to be 'in shape' still runs rampant out there amongst athletes, parents & coaches who believe such statements. I always point out that athletes in their elite conditions, such as Olympic sprinters, even when they break world record times, such as Usain Bolt's performance this summer, you never see them hurling up during their celebration. Bolt in particular ran the fastest time ever for any human being on record, and he didn't toss his cookies afterwards in front of the whole world to see. He was too busy celebrating.
