Question
I just had a baby 4 weeks ago today. I started running last week. A couple of months into my pregnancy I was still running 12-15 per week. I have not been as active and am just getting started again. Yesturday I ran 2 miles and yesturday and today I have strong inner knee pain. Right now they are on fire. This has not happened to me before. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? My muscles definately are not as strong as they use to be and I am starting over getting strong and building my endurance up.
Answer
Hi Jalene
You have to get your alignment and tracking back in the core area since carrying that baby all that time has put a lot of stress on that area. The two things i would recommend is stationary bike which is fantastic. It provides tracking and alignment and strengthens quads and is a great cardio workout till your waist down core comes back. The other thing would be to get into some weighs such as abductor adductor, leg extensions, leg curls, and a ton of ab work. Also 500mg vit c with your 3 meals a day to enhance recovery of connective tissues, tendons, cell structure from the stress of carrying that baby.Ice your knee as often as you can, and i would recommend walking for a while and of course biking till your body comes back in to alignment. Most important is be very, very, very patient making your come back or your bound to have a lot more issues to deal with.Your body just finished a 9 month marathon.Time to rehabb Jalene. If you have other questions just get in touch.
