Question
Hello,
I have to be able to provide a time of at least 1st by end of October 09, so I can qualify for a company race in Budapest which is not until July of 2010. The problem is, I had Achilles reconstruction surgery Nov 08 (full tear) and my ankle/Achilles area is still a bit stiff. Cannot not fully extend yet. Been doing weights and stationary bike and just started jogging in place so I would think my legs are strong. I am hoping to fully start training beginning of September. How do you suggest I start this training. I want to make sure I don't tear my Achilles again. So really need to strengthen that first.
Thanks!
Answer
Hi Maragarita
The only thing i recommend is you just have to gradually work your way back.I think good long walks including a few easy hills from time to time would work in a very specific passive way and then in time you could gradually add some easy jogging and hill repeats over time etc.It really is all about testing testing.Adding 500 mg of vit C with your 3 meals a day is fantastic for tendons, connective tissue and fascia.Epson salt soaks are also very good for recovery. Most important is just don't rush back till your 100% without question. If you have other questions Margarita at any time just get in touch.
All the best
John
