Pain in quadriceps

Question
Hi!
I've been running for almost 2 ?years now. I joined my cross country team at school this year. Only until recently, probably about 2 months ago have I had this pain in my quadriceps soon after I start running. It really hurts, but it isn't a sharp, jabbing pain, but it prevents me from speeding up to do a proper session. It mostly hurts when I've settled into a long run which is about 12 km. I've tried stretching them and applying ice, but there's no improvement or cessation of pain. I took a week off training, and just focussed on core workouts, but then I got back to training, the pain comes back. The pain in the quads is only there when I run, but when I stop it immediately goes away. Can you suggest what might be wrong? And is there anything I can do to alleviate it or make it disappear?
Thanks so much,
Jasmine :)
Answer
Hi Jasmine
With out knowing the pin point location it is hard which part of the quad your having problems with,so to save time for you to get to the bottom of this i would recommend you google (pain in quadricep} and there you can find many articles, and if you can click onto images in upper left hand side of page you will have some great pictures so you can identify and pin point the location. If you want to get back to me with further info i would be happy to go over it.Any questions just get in touch.
All the best
John
