starting out advice on calf pain

2016/7/22 10:07:10

Question
i am brand new to jogging but always wanted to try it and love it - except my calf muscles feel so tense (after about 5 mins) almost as if they are going to cramp but they don't - i can manage the jogging aerobically fine but i find i am thinking about how much my calves hurt all the time - i spend about 10 mins warming them up before hand but it doesn't seem to help - i wondered if maybe it just takes time for my muscles to adjust to doing something different, or if it was the way i am running, like my posture or something - any advice gratefully received.

Answer
Hi Mandy
Starting up is a very delicate process and your age height weight is really a big factor due to the past level of activity and present program. You are experiencing very normal things, but over time will adapt.Your posture and the way your running has nothing to do with it.Two things you can do to help your discomfort is ice your calf's as often as you can and start taking 500mg vit C with your 3 meal a day to enhance recovery of tendons, tissue, ligaments and collagen and also take some EPSON salt baths for about 20 minutes at the last thing you do before you jump into bed to maximize the benefits of recovery.Any questions just shout Mandy.

All the very best
to you

John
