Running Again

Question
Hello
i started doing little running again this year after getting into a half marathon in September this year. I've started doing a little running every other morning (3 miles at the moment tops) to break myself in slowly. However recently i have been enjoying doing weightlifting and resistance exercise too. Is there nay reason the two shouldn't go together?
I generally go
Monday - Running
Tuesday - Resistance
Wednesday Running
Thurs resistance
Friday Running
Sat resistance
Sunday - rest
Does this appear sensible to you or should i be doing cardio and resistance on the same day then having a rest day after?
Answer
Hi Gareth
That program looks just fine.A simple formula i teach which fits your schedule. It is called OFR.....Overload Feed Rest...Overload the muscular skeleton and energy system and then feed it with high quality nutrition and then quality resting what you just overloaded. The rest can be active rest or total rest. The most important thing to remember in training is with out rest and recovery there is no growth and healing. When in doubt spread out your easy days from running and resistance for better recovery if you find your body just feels a little beat up.It is all about managing the recovery properly and you will be fine and not get injured.
All the very best
John
