sore knee,new runner

Question
Hi john,
I am very new to running/jogging. I have been at it only about 6 weeks now. I have a few questions if you don't mind. I am 29, female, 134 pounds. I am startin running to lose 10 pounds and tone my body. I did something silly not knowing better in runnin with 1.5 pound ankle weights for about 1.5 miles yesterday and today could not do my run due to soreness. How long should I wait to get back out there. Given I'm so new I don't want to lose ground you know! Also, I would love to be in a 5k this summer and was wondering how can I get to that point? I can run about 1-1.5 miles presently. But to be honest if my father isn't with me I seem to walk much sooner...how can I get past this mark mentally and phisically? And the best treatment for sore knees? Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Ashley
First 10 pounds is a walk in the park to get rid of.Toning will take more time.I would walk jog til you feel you can jog full time with out the discomfort. With sore knees just ice them as often as you can.Ashley, losing weight getting in shape running some road races and having the ability to mentally over come the work ethic and the training required to accomplish the goals you set for your self has to have a very powerful focus and vision and commitment to not look back and do what ever it takes to reach out and identify with your full potential and future and become the hero of your own success story. It is a life you live not a quick fix so you don't keep repeating the present situation. For your information i started out just like you with the same questions 30 years ago and to this day train 7 days a week and many times 2 times a day.It will totally change your life and thinking stuff if you give it time. You have to begin with the end in mind to totally transform your life and live and perform and act in the moment and as time goes by you will be rewarded beyond your wildest imagination like it did for me.It is your choice what fork in the road you want to take.Choose wisely Ashley. If you have other questions just get in touch or call me any time here in Albuquerque if you like.

All the success
to you

John
