Swollen knee

Question
Recently my right knee began to swell after jogging two miles on the treadmill. I am training for a 10 miler and am worried. I am 35 and weigh 190 (female). I ran a marathon about 6 year ago and continued running about 15 miles per week until about a year ago. I am now getting back into the swing of things and this happened. It does not hurt, I put a brace on and nothing happens when I am running, but I noticed swelling when I'm finished. It also feels as if sometimes my knee cap needs to pop into place. I know I need strength training and am wondering if this is the problem. if I ride the stationary bike, strength train an keep my jogging mileage low can I still run the 10 miler?
Answer
Hi Lisa
First i would not run the 10 miler if you are not injury free.Rehabbing your knee should be first priority. The swelling very likely could be some bursa sac problems in the knee.I would google BURSA SAC KNEE and see if you can find symptoms that relate to your injury along with images to get visual clarity. That would be your best source of info since without a better description and your past program of training it is hard to pin point your situation. You didn't mention your height, but when your carrying a lot of weight it is really rough on the muscular skeleton system especially just starting up.If you have other questions just get in touch Lisa. The bike is a great alternative in your situation. If you want to call me here in albuquerque anytime your welcome for more clarity.Email is tough to get detail thoughts understood.
All the best
