Dry heaving/ gagging

2016/7/22 10:06:40

Question
Hello!

Im a 13 year old boy and a freshman on the xc team. I am 119lbs and 5 foot 2. Our training consists of regular 4-6 mile runs at an easy to a moderate pace and track workouts, tempo runs, hills, and long runs. We also incorporate stretching and drills. Everytime when i race whether its an 800m or more i tend to dry heave in the middle to the end of the race. It really slows me down and is painful. This will also happen when we are doing a track workout when i go faster than normal.Sometimes in a race when im not even pushing myself hard i can feel the dry heaves coming and then it happens I do not know what im doing wrong i hydrate and eat 30min before i run. How can i stop the dry heaves? Is there anything that i can take before I run a hard effort so i dont end up gagging?

My theory on this is that i think i get too nervous before a race and that somehow causes me too dry heave during my peformance.

Thank you so much for taking the time out to read my question

Answer
Hi Matthew
Your situation is quite complex, but diet plays a very big  role and there are other things that also contribute. For one thing you shouldn't be eating 30 minutes before the race or workouts.I suggest aprox 4hrs.Do to the many questions i need to ask you in regards to your situation i would like to discuss this with you over the phone since to give your situation the clarity you need to grasp the information and implement the info email will not get it done properly and i don't want you to misinterpret the info. This is the only way i could help clear it up for you.You can call here in albuquerque NM any time from 6am MT on.505 271 5909.

All the best

John
