new shoes or new inserts

Question
I have several questions and no unbiased party to ask. i wear Asics gt2150 with Powerstep Pinnacle inserts for plantar faciitis. I was told that the Asics are a really good shoe for PF and the inserts do give alot of relief. My questions are: Do I need a good PF shoe if I have the inserts or will any running shoe do? and Do i need to replace my shoes and/or inserts? I know that any shoe salesman is going to tell me I need new shoes and anyone selling inserts is going to do the same. Any input you have is welcome.
Answer
I don't know about the specific type of brand (because I only wear one brand), but I think I can help with some of the other things. Heres the truth about running shoes, you want a good one. However, don't EVER worry about what it looks like, or if it s a specific rand, bla bla bla. You need to worry if it is the right type (is is supportive enough, is it loose enough, or is it neutral enough.) Oh, and I tried inserts a year or two back, and I don't lie them, but I know people who do. It all just depends if the shoes fits and feels comfortable. I, myself, wear arch supports and I am experimenting with heel pads, but that is because my shoes are way old and i am trying to save them. Oh, and replacing them is IMPORTANT. As soon as you start to feel not normal pain in your body for no reason (like for me, i get sore knees) then it is time to replace them. Or, you can do what I am trying to do, and stick supports in them in their deathbed (just make sure that they are supportive to begin with). Sorry that I can't tell you about any specific shoe(because I haven't ever used that brand, and I have never had plantar fasciitis), but I hope this helps you make a decision, and stay-injury free.
