Kneecap Sublexation

Question
Dear John,

The other day I was playing basketball as part of a break from running, and during the game, my right kneecap went to the left and stayed there for about 5 seconds and then rolled back into place.  As of now I can't really extend my leg fully but the swelling has gone down greatly.  I was wondering, how long do you think I should wait before running again(my normal routine is running about 2-3 miles a day) and should I wear a brace when I run from now on?  Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
ST

Answer
Hi ST
I would not wear a brace and as far as when to get back running i would give running a break for a couple of months and start working on rehabbing your knee since that should not of happened and your lucky it wasn't worst. The one activity which would be great to address your tracking and alignment situation and strengthening your quads which support your tracking of the knee is up right stationary bike workouts as often as you can.You really have to treat this as a very serious matter or you could get into serious trouble again. If you have any questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
