Question
hello nick,
i am 24 years old and i have been diagnosed with anklyosing spondylitis about 2 months ago. I am an avid runner and in my career field you must be active to stay in. i am in the military and must take a physical fitness test to maintain standards and stay in. just last week i began running again after a 3 month layoff due to the condition. what advice do you have for someone like me? i refuse to stop running just because of this condition and although i realize i am not the same as before there must be a way i can run effectively again.
thanks
Answer
Have you heard of Chi Running, a different way to run and hold form/technique; (http://www.active.com/women/Articles/5-Elements-of-Chi-Running.htm)
I think this is something you should consider, many runners with your disease, which I am so sorry about, have transitioned to this type of running, and it could benefit you greatly. Take a look at this, and watch some videos about form and how to start. I think you'll find this helpful.
