Clicking knee going up stairs

Question
Hi John
I am a mom of a 9 month old, and just started back on the treadmill yesterday. I ran at 4.0/hr, for 3 miles and felt great. I'm having no knee pain, but my knee clicks loudly when I go up the stairs. I'm not sure what I can do to stop this, and prevent it in the future?
Answer
Hi Angie
Most problems with running are directly related to tracking and alignment of the muscular skeleton system including the clicking situation your experiencing.Since you are just coming back from a great experience with your 9yr old a lot of what happened, nothing bad,but you developed some of those tracking and alignment situations which is expected carying the little one with your core area which includes your pelves and all the supporting ligaments tendons muscles and collagen.Bottom line you just have to work your way back gradually and have a great great deal of patience and consistency of your workouts working around your schedule and over time you will be back to your normal stuff..I would recommend which i have used for many years with all my clients including myself and some of the elite athlete runners is a up right stationary bike starting out with medium tension increasing it as you become stronger at about 65 to 75 rpm adjusting how you feel and doing it as often as you can find time do to your responsibilities with the little one and family obligations. If you have any other questions Angie just get in touch or if you want to call me here in Albuquerque any time at no charge your welcome....Just go to my site for contact.
All the very best
John
