Sand Running

2016/7/22 10:05:46

Question
Hello,

I signed up for a 4 mile run... and just found out that it is on sand. I am have been training on a track and can only run 10% of the 4 miles...Therefore I am out of shape and I am nervous about the sand run/walk.

?Should I do the run with sneakers or barefoot
?How should I train differently because the of the sand and if so how.

Thanks for your time.
Sherri

Answer
Hi Sherri
If you want to  run the race you should definitely wear your running shoes. The one thing i would caution you about is especially being out of shape. The muscular skeleton system especially from the knee's down to your feet and especially your achilles tendon can really become a real problem due to sands lack of stability and getting over stretched.Just wanted to make you aware of what your getting into Sherri. There is no special way to train for the sand.Just hope it is hard packed sand.If you have other questions just give a shout out Sherri.

All the best

John
