Knee pain.

QUESTION: Hi John,
I have this very sharp pain in my right knee whenever weight is put on my knee while I'm in flexion of my knee joint. So the upward phase of a squat or walking up stair etc. Its a sharp enough pain that I cant actually pull the joint through the movement I have to move it to the next leg. I'm not too sure how it started but I have a suspicion it is from playing squash. I want to start training for the rugby season next year if I am able. Will this prohibit my future activity as my pain is really very sore.

ANSWER: Hi Jarrid
I'm quite sure you have developed some tracking and alignment issues and as you said probably squash.I would recommend an up right stationary bike for 45 min at med tension increasing it as you become stronger at aprox 65 to 80 rpm daily till you get a feel if it is starting to correct it self.Just go gradually and work into it.I have used this for 100's with chondromalacia and other situations.Any questions just get in touch and let me know how it goes.

QUESTION: Hi John,
Firstly thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering if when it hurts when I bike is that good, or should I be biking in a way that doesn't hurt the knee if possible. I mean in terms of correcting the alignment is pain good like it is when working muscles or na?

Hi Jarrid
As the alignment and tracking works it thing you will from time to time realize some discomfort but it is ok and normal.It can be frustrating from time to time but in time the success with this is fantastic,but you must as an athlete have a great great deal of patience just like when preparing for a new season.It all takes time and that is just the the ups and downs of being a athlete........By the way i was my first client 30years ago and rehabbed my chondromalacia with 100% success in 1982 cause i could not find any health professional who could be specific and tell me what the problem was.Took me 8 months and stopped my preparation for NYC marathon at 100 plus mile weeks with a goal of low 2:50 marathon which was right on target for sure.Just thought i would throw in this little tid bit.Keep me informed Jarrid.
