Knee pain from jogging

Question
I am currently experiencing severe knee pain and require crutches to get around. The pain is on the inner lower part of my knees and is quite severe. I have been in bed now for 5 days using ice frequently and taking Naproxen 500mg twice a day. I don't feel like there is any healing taking place and I am having trouble sleeping comfortably. I am 46 and after a discussion with my family doctor I decided to add some jogging to my 6km-1hr walk each night. After the fourth night my knees hurt and I stopped jogging but had to spend 6 hours the next day laying sod. The next day I went to emergency and was told to rest, use ice and take an anti-inflammatory. I have Von Willibrands disease and hope this is not making matters worse somehow. Is there something else I should be doing to help the healing process, this is quite depressing. I would appreciate any advice.
Sincerely,
Sharon
Answer
I'm terribly sorry to hear you've had so much pain. First, there is no reason to believe that any of this will worsen Von Willibrands disease. Now for my recommendation. Because of the severity of the pain rest, ice, and an anti-inflammatory will not be sufficient. You need to see a professional. If you have one you like then he/she should be fine. I will post a few links below to organizations or people that I am familiar with and recommend.
TMR Therapists are physical therapists, occupational therapists, or athletic trainers that are TMR certified.
Egoscue Therapists are wonderful. These people are certified in the Egoscue method and passively make sure everything is in proper alignment.
Physical therapists on this site are members of the APTA (which I'm also a member of). This signifies that they are likely up to date on the research and can provide better help than PTs who are not members.
Feldenkrais practitioners help you move in correct patterns and are also very passive.
I always recommend looking into more than one method or place to help you. Everyone has a different background and I believe in almost all circumstances there is someone that can alleviate pain in a healthy way. This article is excellent on what pain is telling you and why we have it- Pain, Pain, Pain.
